How often do you get together with family for a large meal, spending the time connecting with one another and sharing in social experiences? In our modern lives, when we have so many other distractions the frequency of family meals can dip. We all have other commitments-- face to face communication is now just one of many ways we can all talk to each other and the convenience of fast food can all contributed to what we called traditional family meal inside our places called home.
Taking time preparing and eating a meal is amazingly beneficial for the entire family, especially for children. Family mealtimes allow us all to catch up with other members of the family but also set a great example for the younger ones, teaching them the value of close family ties and how to socialize and interact with people of different ages. They will learn that their opinions can be respected as well as being encouraged to debate and formulate their ideas into meaningful reasoning. This will help parents to understand children more thoroughly and giving kids an area in which the feel safe to talk about their passion or troubles.
Setting traditions such as expecting every family member to respect a meal time where you all come together, also lets children know they are loved and included in a unit, where everyone cares about each other and you can all become that much more involved in each other’s sometimes separate lives. Most of all always encourage everyone to give grace and be thankful to God for very meal. So the next time you think of family time…Think of a Meal Time.
