Mom...Reduce Your Stress
July 5th 2009 20:16
Mom, does your day end as hurried and messy as how it started or do you return home to a relaxed haven where you can put your feet up after a particularly grilling day? Or are you one of the millions today who live a life beset by: anxiety, heart palpitations, frustration, low tolerance, anger, irritability, and tiredness?
For most mothers the toughest part of the day is when commuting, chores, dinner preparation, and homework meltdown all seems to collide. Speed-marinating frozen meat, dashing to check email and managing three hyperactive kids all at once leaves you drained, exhausted and irritable to the point that you have no time or energy for anyone.
Here are some tips to handle and reduce stress in your daily home tasks
Never Run Late Again
Getting behind schedule is a major factor in witching-hour frenzy. Simple denial is often the culprit. We soften and blur the realities of how long it takes to complete a task. Hey…don’t fool yourself the clock only runs faster when you’ve set yourself impossible goals. Time management and organization prevents both panic and chaos.
Outsource what you Can
Here you can train your kids simple task that can help you ease the burden of little chores like washing dishes, folding clothes, help their younger brothers or sisters do their homework, preparing the table, etc. Those simple household works can really unburden your stress if someone in the family will give a helping hand.
Look at things in a lighthearted manner
Laughter is the best medicine. Yes laugh at the chaos. See the humor in all the craziness. If you didn’t have such an overflowing, full, and productive life, weeknights would be a lot calmer but also a lot more boring, laugh at some of the near impossible situations life throws at you and you will find that they cease to be as enormous as before. Laughter lightens and distresses like nothing else.
Stop yelling
Yes…stop yelling except if the house is on fire. Yelling increases your stress levels and create tense and unsafe home environment. Whatever you are shouting, the underlying message you are giving your mate or child is that you don’t respect them enough.
Don’t play superwoman
The human brain literally cannot do two things at once instead it quickly toggles back and forth from one task to the other, taking its toll on our efficiency and energy. Some multitasking is fine—chatting with kids while chopping onions, for instance, but for more involved tasks save it for later. You cannot do more things at the same, so you better do them one a at time. Accept that you have limitations in terms of your capability.
